Corki was the very first Sheltie that I could truly call "mine." I talked my mom out of him when he was 3 and he was with me ever since. As a younger dog, we did the shows and he came home with a couple of reserves but we never did manage to get any points. The main reason I stopped showing him is because as a 5 year old, he was hit by a car and never moved the same since. He is a very good dog and other than his arthritis and stiffness in his joints when moving, was still a very well put together dog. He had good bone, substance and movement (even after his accident) and carried a huge coat (pictured out of coat). His hips are certified OFA Good (after the accident). He was a fabulous dog for me and he retired from showing because he was getting old and never really did like shows anyway. He loved to travel and be a house companion. He was also known by myself and my family as "Houdini" because he could get out of almost anything that wasn't padlocked! Ex-Pens (any height), low fences (3.5 feet or lower) and some crates are among those he could get out of. (or at least he could when he was younger!) Corki was really showing his age. He had had some health issues in his later years and we nearly lost him in April 2003. He recovered somewhat but we came to a point that we believed it would be cruel to make him have to endure another cold winter. He couldn't be kept in the house any longer because he didn't like to stay in so he was "stuck" in the kennel. On October 15, 2003 we helped him to the Rainbow Bridge. |
